Question: hi, i had protected sex on 12th March, and my periods were due on 20th March. I did not get my periods. So on 25th, 30th and 4th i did home pregnancy test (UTP). All were negative. Then i visited my gynac she prescribed Modus 10 , i am having it from past 5 days.... also did ultrasound.... the ultrasound technician mentioned that there is no sign of pregnancy, but have PCOD. My ultrasound report suggest Beta HCB test. I am very confused .... please suggest what needs to be done? Am i pregnant? Or not? should i go for Beta HCB test ?
Brief Answer:
Investigations for PCOD need to be done
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on Healthcaremagic.
A negative urine pregnancy test and absence of gestational sac on ultrasound rules out pregnancy for all practical purposes.
The ultrasound report gives a possibility of PCOD.
PCOD stands for polycystic ovarian disease.
PCOD is characterised by presence of multiple follicles in the ovary. Under health one of the follicles matures to release mature ovum or egg, however, in PCOD none of the follicles mature to release mature ovum.
PCOD is diagnosed by undertaking some investigations- Levels of FSH, LH and LH/FSH ratio, and insulin levels.
Since, pregnancy is ruled out, HCG levels need not be done.
Consult your gynecologist for further management.

Thank you for the prompt reply. Just reconfirming... my report says this
Uterus: Both ovaries shows multiple follicles arranged in periphery 10 -12 in no. with echogenic central stroma.
Impression: Status- UTP – Negative
Fatty liver grade 1
Ovarian morphology suggestive of PCOD
No obvious gestational SAC seen
Suggest B- HCG and follow up.
Please explain... do i have anything to worry about... pregnancy or any other thing
Brief Answer:
Investigations for PCOD are required
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
The ultrasound report rules out the presence of gestational sac.
There is presence of multiple follicles in the periphery.
These findings are suggestive of PCOD.
Further HCG levels are advised to confirm pregnancy.
However, there is no evidence of pregnancy.
Further management is to confirm PCOD by above mentioned tests.
Once the diagnosis of PCOD is confirmed, treatment for PCOD can be started.
Thanks and take care
