Is Prolonged Premarin Intake Dangerous?

LONG TERM PREMARIN ALONE - NOT RECOMMENDED.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.
PREMARIN is a conjugated estrogen tablet and useful to treat post-menopausal symptoms including hot flushes effectively for short term.
It is NOT recommended for LONG term therapy due to having serious side effects like 1) Cardiovascular Disorder (Deep vein thrombosis, Stroke etc); 2) Malignant Neoplasm (like endometrial, breast, ovarian carcinoma); 3) Probable Dementia; 4) Gall bladder disease; 5) Visual abnormalities etc.
It should be combined with LOW dose progesterone to avoid uncomfortable side effects. Kindly, consult with your treating doctor regarding this.

1) FDA approved Paroxetine (like BRISDELLE) can be used to treat moderate to severe hot flashes (vasomotor symptoms) associated with menopause. It is a non- hormonal and selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor. For prescription, you must consult with your treating doctor.
Some life style modification can be helpful like a) Keep cool - by drinking more water or bathing 2-3 times daily, b) Avoid hot and spicy food stuff, caffeinated beverages and alcohol, c) Relax yourself by deep breathing or other stress- reducing techniques, d) Do light exercise or walk regularly, e) Take sound sleep.
Black Cohosh is very popular among women with menopausal symptoms. Studies of black cohosh's effectiveness have had mixed results and the supplement can be harmful to the liver.
You can take Plant Estrogen like SOY, RED CLOVER etc regularly to reduce hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms.
2) Urinary tract infection should be eliminated before taking any treatment for urinary incontinence. Pelvic Floor muscle exercise is quite helpful to strengthen pelvic muscle. Certain drugs like Oxybutynin, Imipramine, Duloxetine etc can be given to treat incontinence. Kindly consult with your doctor.
