Noticed Pea Size Movable Lump Under Skin Above Ankle. What Should Be Done?
Question: Female, 32, 135 lbs, pea size movable lump under skin above ankle
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Such lumps or swellings usually in the ankle area are rarely due to a serious disorder but mostly are either subcutaneous nodules or ganglionic cysts which are harmless and do not cause any serious symptoms.
Sometimes patients want to be removed due to cosmetic purposes which can be excised as minor surgical procedure under local anesthesia.
The harmless cyst or nodules do not increase in size and painless so if the size increases which is unlikely or if it becomes symptomatic, then get to hospital for further evaluation.
Let me know if you have any more concerns.
Thanks
