Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Your son might be having features of post concussion syndrome which is a mild degree of brain injury. There is no sign of injury on Brain scans. The condition can cause a variety of symptoms: physical, such as headache; cognitive, such as difficulty concentrating; and emotional and behavioral, such as irritability.
Mild traumatic brain injury can lead to deficits in 5 general areas: (1) short-term memory impairment, (2) slowed processing speed, (3) impaired executive function, (4) disrupted abilities of attention and concentration (which likely contributes to the deficits noted in the first 3 categories), and (5) emotional dysregulation.
For most people with post-concussion syndrome are able to recover with rest and minimizing stress.
Most health care providers will also treat symptoms of post-concussion syndrome. For example, migraine or pain medications may be prescribed for those with headache. A specialist such as a neurologist and/or psychiatrist may also be involved to treat mental health symptoms associated with post-concussion syndrome. Antidepressants and psychotherapy may be recommended.
Following are the main areas on which treatment is focused:
•Psychological support
•Behavior modification
•Cognitive rehabilitation
•Family or network intervention
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back in case of doubts.
