Question: I am awakened some nights by severe pain in my right knee as I try to straighten my leg. It happened twice last night. My knee also is sore during the day if I have done much walking. Does it sound like arthritis?

Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
Thank you for your query.

At this age, the most common form of arthritis is osteoarthritis.
It may involve the single joint or multiple joint.
Knee joint is mostly involved in osteoarthritis.
The joint involvement is degenerative type & cause cannot be properly explained.
Probably you are suffering from the same condition.
The pain may occur at both the night and day.
However, in some patients it may be aggravated during night.
The pain usually increases during adverse situation like prolonged walking, during toilet use, stair up and down, etc.

Other form of arthritis should also be considered.
However, their possibility is less.

An X-ray of the affected joint is enough to confirm osteoarthritis.

I think I have been some help of your query.
Please write if you have any doubt.
Take care.
