Brief Answer:
Treating schizophrenia without drowsiness

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your excellent question.

Let me begin by congratulating you for taking your medication. These medicines do often have side effects, but by taking them you are keeping yourself healthy and staying as well as you can be. This is great news.

Let's talk about the medications you have been on in the past and currently.

Prodep (fluoxetine) - This is an SSRI antidepressant. It typically does not cause drowsiness, and has very few side effects. It can be increased to a maximum dose of 80mg daily.

Orap (pimozide) - This is a typical antipsychotic. It can cause drowsiness and extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) like stiffness.

Risperdal (risperidone) - This is an atypical antipsychotic. It can cause drowsiness but is much less likely to cause EPS. It can cause weight gainb. Rarely, prolactin (a hormone in the blood) can be elevated.

Clomipramine - This is a tricyclic antidepressant. It can definitely cause drowsiness, and dry mouth.

Clozapine - This is an antipsychotic. It is the most effective medicine available for treatment of schizophrenia. However, it also has several side effects including drowsiness, salivation, increased heart rate, and requires frequent blood monitoring for small risk of agranulocytosis, a decrease in the white blood cell count.

Sulpitac (amisulpride) - We don't use this drug in the United States where I practice, but it is an effective atypical antipsychotic. This appears to be a good choice for you because it also functions as an antidepressant. Also, it is one of the least likely antipsychotics to cause sedation, so this is also good for you. It can contribute to sweating, but this effect should decrease over time. The standard dose is 800mg daily. This appears to be a good choice for you.

I hope this was helpful to you.
