Suggest Diet For Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Question: Hi, I'm just curious if someone was diagnosed with copd what should they be eating and what shouldn't they be eating. Some ideas that require no preparation would be appreciated. Thanks
Brief Answer:
no special diet required
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
COPD does not require any special diet. The only exception involves treatment with oral corticosteroids. In that case salt consumption should be restricted and reduced consumption of carbohydrates is recommended. This is because corticosteroids keep sodium in the body and salt consumption contains a lot of sodium. Corticosteroids also affect the way the body manages glucose, so high carbohydrate content in the food may result in hyperglycemia and diabetes.
Besides the aforementioned special cases, no other restriction is advised.
Kind Regards!
