Question: Hi Doc,

I been having this Boils on my Back and my Scalp my thighs for the last 3 to 4 years . They appear to be red Bumps they sometimes they get pus in them .

Four weeks ago i went a dermatologist and he diagnosed it as folliculitis and put me on minocycline 90 mg once per day. I Took the tablets for four weeks and most of my boils on my scalp is gone , 80 % of the boils from my back is also gone. But on my thighs the boils keep coming back not at the same rate as before but they are coming back . This week the doctor reduced the does to 80 mg .

my question is :
1) Can this be ever cured
2) will this come back if i stop my medicine.
3) what could have caused this .i do not have diabetes , I even did an HIV test and as expected it was negative .

Brief Answer:
Continue with antibiotic

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query.
Yes it can be cured.

Folliculitis is a bacterial infection and needs treatment with antibiotics.
Continue with the antibiotic till all the lesions are healed then you can stop.
You can use an antibacterial soap like Triclosan in daily use to prevent recurrence.

Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.
