Posted on Wed, 1 Jun 2016
Question: I am away from my home in Michigan and am in Florida for 2 more weeks. I have been dealing with shingles for 3 weeks and now am experiencing pain that is on the surface of my skin. I have pain when anything such as fabric touches the affected area. I am hoping for some over the counter relief such as a topical cream. Can you recommend something?

Brief Answer:
Ibuprofen and Capsicum topical preparation

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

i am dr.kakkar(dermatologist). I have gone through your query and i have noted your concern.

You may take ibuprofen tablets twice daily for a few days. Ibuprofen is availale otc.

Topically you may try to find a preparation containing capsicum (e.g Capsigyl gel) from a local drug store, for local application. It would act as a counter irritant and reduce pain and sensitivity (Do not Rub in). I am not sure if it is available otc in your country.

Regards
