Question: Have aching arthritis type symptoms on my right hand. What medication is best ?

If it really were rheumatoid arthritis (VERY unlikely to start at age 86), then an aspirin like drug such as naproxen and other medications to lower the immune system. At age 86, however, one would be concerned about other diseases that make aspirin like drug far more risky than in other people. Frankly, I have had more hospitalizations in one year from aspirin like drugs than I have ever with narcotics:
(fluid retention in 2 people with heart failure, 3 with stomach ulcers).
And other diseases would be specifically treated with other drugs. Gout sometimes hits in the hands, there are very good medicines to stop gout. Wear and tear (osteo-arthritis) is more common with increasing age; rheumatoid generally begins before age 50. Tylenol is a good medication to start with in osteoarthritis. Aspirin like drugs are likely to be stronger and more effective but some risks as mentioned above.
Mostly it is wear and tear. Comes on very gradually, is in only a few isolated spots. Tylenol or aspirin like drugs are quite good.
