Suggest Remedies For Severe Throat Pain, Sore Throat And Cold

Question: My adut son called said he has had a sore throat and cold but now just sitting still he swallowed and something in his throat felt like it popped followed by very severe throat pain much lower and around his adam's apple area, he has more difficulty swallowing now and no problems with breathing or talking. says it hurts more than any sore throat he has ever had. What happened what should he do or take?

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this sore throat. When have sore throat and get to swallow, the pain increases as food moves over the swollen and painful part of the throat. This is explains why there is increased pain. For now, Tylenol and Ibuprofen would be helpful in controlling the pain. I will suggest that he gets evaluated for a doctor for antibiotics as these cannot be gotten over the counter.
