Need work up and rest
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking
I read your question and i understand your concern. Shooting pain in leg with history of long jumps and other athletic activities should be evaluated for muscle pull injuries like hamstring injuries , thigh muscle cramps or mere a musculoskeletal spasm. I would also recommend some radiographs of leg as well as lower spine to rule out any injury. Talk to your doctor and let them proceed.
Meanwhile rest for a while, heat compresses and some tylenol or advil will help.
I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and your son and dont forget to close the discussion please.
