Diabetic. Dull Pain In Waist Line, Rib Cage, Intermittent. Is It Related To Kidney Or Liver Damage?
I have had a dull pain just below my waist-line/rib-cage area for some weeks. It had been intermittant, but worst when sitting for a longer period in my car. It has now become worse, being more severe at times, and is also painful around my waist-line, on the left side of my back. I am a Type 2 Diabetic. Could this be related? Might it be connected to kidney or liver damage? What sort of investigation should I seek?
The commonest cause for pain in that area is musculoskeletal spasm. Straining produces pain like sitting for a long time also is in favour of musculoskeletal pain. In your case diabetes as such causing pain is more unlikely. You may need X ray of the area, Ultrasound of the abdomen, Liver function and renal function tests to rule out pain caused due to liver and renal pathologies.
