Suggest Remedy For Fatigue After Apicoectomy Procedure

Posted on Tue, 6 Oct 2015
Question: I've had at least a third abcess on the only molar I have on the upper I'm trying to save to get implants done on the other side of my mouth. I only have this one to chew on. On this tooth I've had a traditional root canal several years ago, then a Apicoectomy a few years ago and last week one cracked root was removed to buy me some time to get the implants done.
My question is I just feel exhausted and so low energy I'm wondering if the tooth is causing this.

I should say the left side is healing from the 2nd Apicoectomy and I'm getting a consult on implants for the right side next week.
I'm just barely getting around and feel very weak although am managing to get done what I need to, i.e., go to the store, see my mother in the nursing home, etc. I also had some dermatological work done this week, and since then just stayed inside and done very little. I have no other specific symptoms other than minor pain from the procedure. I just feel like I need to rest all the time.

Brief Answer:
Your tooth is not causing the exhaustion. Low thyroid levels could

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Although your dental condition could be leading to poor food intake which could be the cause of your exhaustion, your tooth is not causing the exhaustion directly.

I would insist you to get your thyroid profile checked as low thyroid levels could be related to feeling exhausted. You need to get a regular morning walk and exercise if you want to deal with your exhaustion.

Thank you for your response. I recently had blood work, and my TSH was well within normal limits.
Is there a particular panel or test that you would suggest I get? I did have an episode of hyperthyroidism not long after childbirth many years ago, bad enough to be on medication, both for the hyperthyroidism and racing heartbeat. The endocrinologist diagnosed Graves Disease as it was antibody positive. Since then other doctors have been skeptical as it resolved, or has been inactive since then.
I have no reason to believe it hyper, but have wondered if it is no hypoactive. Any thoughts you have will be appreciated.
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Thyroiditis could explain your symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

I have an explanation for what you mention. There is an entity called autoimmune thyroiditis. The autoantibodies attack the thyroid gland making it leaky initially giving rise to a burst of thyroid hormones, a condition which is commonly diagnosed as hyperthyroidism. But as the hormones leak out, the thyroid hormone levels fall back to normal, a stage that your present tests indicate. But actually after the thyroid hormones leak out entirely, i.e. the thyroid gland gets depleted, hypothyroidism results. I am sure that is happening in your case. In such a case, you would need to periodically get your T4 and TSH levels checked (and 3 or 6 monthly intervals.

Irrespective of the explanation for your status, you need to increase your energy output. You need to go for regular morning walk and free hand exercises. I assure you that it will boost your energy levels. The other things to be done are to avoid sleep, get a good night's sleep and to try yoga and meditation.

Hope that helps.
