Suggest Remedy For Lower Abdominal Pain And Loose Stool

default
Posted on Fri, 20 May 2016
Question: I have been experiencing llq abd pain and cramping for a couple of weeks. BM's are either loose or normal. Hemmorhoid symptoms for about a month but this seems better except for today where I had a small amount of blood on tissue. I had a colonoscopy, andoscopy and barium enema in July, 2015. Have been told I have hemmorhoids and ibs. Although I feel the latter is a catch all diagnosis. I am very anxious about the possibility of cancer.

Brief Answer:
Cancer unlikely

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

It is unlikely that you have colorectal cancer.
I can tell this for sure because you had colonoscopy done only in July 2015 and it was normal.
It is very unlikely to have developed cancer in such a short period of time.

The bleeding could probably be from hemorrhoids only which was diagnosed during the last colonoscopy.

I hope that answers you query.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.

What can I do for symptoms of abd pain and cramping? Normal BMs alternating with loose stools. Should I get another colonoscopy?

Brief Answer:
Librax

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
You can have a stool culture done.
For pain relief you can take Librax.
Take a course of probiotics also.

Since colonoscopy was done only 6 months ago, you do not require another one now.

Dr.R.K.

I also had a barium enema, fecal occult and anoscopy. All were normal. I guess my concern is that the gastro doc said my prep was poor even though I did prep and had colon lavage to be sure. She was double booked the day of the colonoscopy and I waited 5 hrs for the test. Then she had me get barium enema which showed a filling defect so that is why I had anoscopy. I don't know if this information changes your opinion. Thank you for your replies.

OK, filling defect was in rectum. This all occurred in July, 2015 when I had the llq abd pain but there was no bowel involvement. That pain went away but has returned about 4 weeks ago. I also now have diarrea about once a day even though I have been taking metamucil for a week as recommended by gastro doctor. I don't feel like my normal self. Should I ask for another colonoscopy? With all of these test 7 months ago is it possible something was missed? Why would the pain go away and return 7 months later if something serious is happening? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Cancer unlikely

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the additional information.
Cancer is unlikely as the anoscopy done after the barium didnt show anything.

Your symptoms looks like that of IBS only and as suggested earlier take Librax and probiotics for relief. IBS is a functional disease and symptoms keep recurring.

There is no need for another colonoscopy as it was done only 7 months ago.

Regards,
Dr.R.K.
