Suggest Remedy For Pain And Inflammation In Ribs
Question: I've been hurting in my left side in ribs and my back. Dr told me I had inflammation. But my d dimer was elevated 854. I had a CT done of lungs and it was ok. Should I worry about elevated d dimer?
Brief Answer:
There is no need to get worried about this!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
There is no need to get worried about this elevated d dimer at this time. To me, it is most likely a false positive test given the negative findings of other tests which are more performant at detecting blood clots in the lungs. I will recommend that you get this test repeated to see at what level the d-dimers are at this time.
Are you taking any medications for the back pain?
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Brief Answer:
Yes, inflammation can cause false positives!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this follow up.
Inflammation anywhere in the body can cause d-dimers to be elevated. This is not related to a possible clot. I will say stay calm for now. Unless otherwise, there is no need for further aggressive investigation unless something else comes up.
Let me know how it goes. I wish you well.
