Suggest Remedy For Pain And Swelling In Ankle Post An Injury

default
Posted on Tue, 15 Dec 2015
Question: I slipped on the snow this morning and fell, hitting my ankle bone on ice. I got up and continued on my walk. It was tender to the touch, but didn't hurt. About 4 hours later, it really became painful to the point that I couldn't put weight on it. I have been resting and icing for 15 minutes per session. I can move it slightly more and it's not painful anymore while just sitting. It hurts when I wiggle toes, and pull toes to leg, but not as excruciating as it was. When I turn my ankle it really hurts. Why was I able to use it for hours without any pain and now I feel like I sprained it or something?

Brief Answer:
Bone injury likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Since you are not able to move the ankle and the swelling has appeared a bone injury needs to be ruled out. It is not likely to be a simple sprain.
Initially the pain was less as there was no swelling and may be the injured area was not displaced. Walking on it may have made it worse. It is best to consult an orthopedician and get an X-ray of the area done. Keep the foot elevated on two pillows till then. Do not bear weight on your foot.
I hope this answers your query.
