What Causes Swelling, Bruising And Pain In The Thumb?
I think I may have broken my thumb (very noticable swelling, bruising and pain) but my parents are unwilling to take me to the hospital to have it checked out and I have no money to get the bus there (it d take like 3 hours walking), but there s a local doctors round the corner from my house. I m wondering would a GP be able to look at my thumb and tell me if it s broken/fractured/sprained? Or would they not be able to because there isn t an x-ray?
The bruising and swelling of the thumb is indicating trauma of the thumb. Yes, try first to see your GP in order to specify if there's any broken bones there. Your GP will give appropriate advices as per physical examination. If she/he will suspect any other more serious problem, he/she will make possible to get x-ray or further consultation with orthopedic specialist. Meanwhile, please apply cold compresses until you see your GP.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
