Suggest Remedy For Vaginal Infection

Question: I had a diagnosed yeast infection and was given medicine to treat it. Right away the itching and burning stopped and the medicine has also got rid of most of the discharge. I know I was supposed to use non scented soap and keep the area clean as much as possible but I went on vacation and was sitting in water for a while and I think that made it worse. The next week I had my period and all the symptoms went away but a few days later I had sex and the irritation and the burning while urinating and the discharge was back. I went to urgent care and her preseciped me terazoncale and also tested me for vaginosis, vaginitis, and herpes 2. On the second day of treatment I noticed a bump on the labia. It does not hurt and now it looks pussy but still no pain, no burning while urinating and no itching. Does this mean I have herpes? The lab tests have not come back yet.

Brief Answer:
Simultaneus treatment for both the partners should be taken

Detailed Answer:
Dear xxxxxxxxxxx,

This is typical behaviour of yeast or fungal infection. Though it is common in commode users, it is mainly a sexually transmitted infection. In the first event, you were probably infected only with the fungus. You got cured by the treatment; however, your sexual partner continued to have infection. Thus, when you had sex again, you got the infection back. In this fungal infection it is imperative that both the sexual partners are treated simultaneously to prevent the reinfections.

Now in this new reinfections, you also have contacted some other sexually transmitted infections like vaginosis, herpes 2 and probably gonorrhoea or chlamydia. Please, both of you should get the treatment for them simultaneously. During the treatment, please follow some instructions. They are to be followed by both of you:
1. Observe sexual abstinence till both of you are declared completely cured.
2. Shave the parts clean. The discharge painted in the hair causes reinfection.
3. Cut the nails short.
4. Use panty liners or sanitary napkins to prevent soiling of the underwear.
5. Every day boil the underwear before washing.

The bump you have got on the labia seems to be a Bartholin's abscess. This is usually due to sexually transmitted infection; mostly Gonorrhoea or Chlamydia. They infect Bartholin's glands situated just inside the labia majora. Please report to the Gynaecologist or STI specialist to get appropriate antibiotics. Bartholin's abscess needs incision and drainage with marsupialisation of the edges.

It is a good option to get tested for HIV (both of you) considering the types of sexually transmitted infections, particularly herpes genitalis. If you have already been tested, please upload the reports for my review.

Also please get VDRL test on the blood of both of you. Gonorrhoea and Syphilis are known to go hand in hand.

You are getting correct treatment for yeast and the vaginosis. I am also concerned about your Bartholin's abscess. Please do not ignore it. May be during your menses it will subside due to rupture only to recur again after few days. So please take a Gynaecologist's onion and treatment for it.

I feel I have given you fairly clear guidance for your further steps. Please keep me informed about the reports and the progress. If you want any more information from me, I am always available for you, xxxxxxxxxxxx.
