Brief Answer:
DVT treatment

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

I am sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with a DVT. The usually treatment is to start anti-coagulation therapy. Traditionally we started with injectable medication called lovenox for 1-2 weeks. While on the lovenox we would start warfarin and titrate it until your blood clotting had reached full anti-coagulation. This requires frequent visits to the office and lab work. The warfarin then is monitored for 6-12 months at which time it maybe discontinued. During that time you would be required to have labs to monitor anti-coagulation every 2 weeks to every 4 weeks depending on the anti-coagulation numbers.

We now use oral anticoagulants the most frequent called xarelto which does not require blood monitoring but is real expensive. You would do this also for 6-12 months depending on your doctor.

The course of treatment will be determine between you, your doctor and the insurance company. Unfortunately insurance companies hold the purse strings and make these decisions for us.

Thank you. Are there any home remedies you can recommend? What is the prognosis?

Brief Answer:
no home remedies

Detailed Answer:
There are no home remedies. The prognosis is very good. As long as you do the recommended treatment your chance of recovery is nearly 100 percent. People get into trouble when they don't follow up on the anticoagulation therapy properly.

To prevent future clots I recommend a good diet, weight loss if over weight and regular exercise daily. The exercise is the most important piece of the recovery and prevention. If you travel long distances either plane or car get up once an hour an walk around. This will prevent further blood clots.

I hope I answered your question
