Suggest Treatment For Anxiety

Question: Lately, my anxiety has been awful and I know that my 40mg dose of Vyvanse horribly perpetuates it. I was on Adderall for a year and it eventually lost its effect and I began to feel horrible, and after almost three months on Vyvanse things are beginning to head for the worse again. Tomorrow, I am going to not take it in order to avoid all of the crying episodes and anger and seemingly inability to feel happy. I am nervous about this choice because I have not gone a day without stimulant medication for almost 16 months. At the same time, I know it will be worth it. My doctor says that you can stop at anytime since it is a daily dose that wears off after 12-14 hours and he does not mention anything about withdrawal. I have read a lot about people experiencing rough withdrawals. As a college student, this is something I am very nervous about. Do you think it will be simple to "bounce back"? I know everyone is different but any insight would be appreciated. Also, what tips do you have regarding this and for going cold turkey? Thanks! It would probably be helpful to know that I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder at the same time I received the ADHD diagnosis in 2012.

Brief Answer: You may try bupropion Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query. I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through. Its unfortunate that you are not able to tolerate vyanase, supposed to be one of the good drugs for ADHD. But you would be comfortable to know that many of my patients having a comorbid anxiety disorder were not able to tolerate vyanase. This led me to withdraw this drug and look for an alternative. In many cases reduction in the dosage of vyanase was also helpful. So you may take up 30mg or 20 mg vyanase. Its a low dose but it may be effective. Second option is to completely withdraw it and restrat on some alternative like Bupropion 150-300mg. Its a good drug for ADD. Regarding withdrawing the drug, you may still withdraw the drug abruptly and it should not cause any problem. Even if it causes, you still have the meds and you may take half the dosage of the drug you were taking. It would be a short period of withdrawal and you should not bother. Hope I am able to answer your concerns. If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you. If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback. Thank you for the information. Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not believe I can take half the 40mg dose because it is a capsule. If there is a way to do this, however, please let me know and I would do this. When I was on 20mg originally, I did not have these problems. How come lots of people on forum posts and other websites say they have withdrawal symptoms of extreme fatigue/depression/etc. yet doctors say there is no withdraw? I am nervous because I have a lot of social events this weekend and do not want to be in an anxious state.

Brief Answer: You are right Detailed Answer: Hello Yes , you are right. You cannot make a capsule half. But there are separately available 20mg tablets/capsules. You may take them separately. Only those people who face problems, write it on net. Those who do not have withdrawal symptoms will not mention it on net. You may try it as it may not be very bad. Regards Dr. Srikanth Reddy MD
