Question: hi, I'm an hour old high school kid and on Dec. 20 I got sick with a cold with a stuffed noise, bad cough sometimes accompanied by mucus, sore throat, clogged ears, at one point I had an earache in my left ear, and sneezing but it ended up lasting 4 & 1/2 weeks and o n Feb. 4 I started taking 250mg of Azithromycin for 5days. I finished them by the 9th and I wasn't sick anymore by the 14th but last night I got a stuffed noise again and now I can't stop sneezing and the cough is coming back slowly with the sore throat. its coming back exactly how it did last time and I feel the same way from how I felt then. its only been 1 week since I wasn't sick anymore. what do u think it could be, what should I do about it and why did it come back if I took antibiotics?

Hi,thank you for posting your query on health care magic.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

The cause of your symptoms might be Allergy or Viral infection.
You suffered from same symptoms 1 week before .At that time you took Antibiotic-Azithromycin-250 mg.It is used in case of bacterial infection. And the dose would be 500mg once a day according to your age. There is a possibility that even before also, you were not suffering from bacterial infection,so Azithromycin would have no role.

At present you may find relief by taking the following medications:
Analgesic with Anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen,
Antacid like Rantac,
Antihistaminic like Levocetrizine,
Oral Decongestant like Phenylephrine and Nasal Decongestant drops like Oxymetazoline(take Decongestant only if you are not suffering from Hypertension),
Cough expectorant like Ambroxol.

Also do warm saline gargles,Do steam inhalation.Drink lots of warm fluids.Avoid cold food and dust.

If you suffer from high grade fever, pus discharge from the nose or in the cough, severe throat pain leading to difficulty in swallowing, etc suggestive of a bacterial infection, then it would be advisable to start another group of Oral Antibiotic after consulting Doctor.

Hope this answers your question.I would be helpful to answer if you have any follow-up question.Take care.
