Posted on Mon, 11 May 2015
Question: Hi doctor, I'm having cough for past few days n I'm a sinus patient . Every year during this month I get sinus. As I'm feeling breathless n difficult to breathe in the night I took Seroflo inhaler first for two days n now I am taking LEVOLIN inhaler 50 mcg. I hope I can take this as I'm breast feeding my 6 month old baby. Plz advice whether its ok to take inhaler if I'm breast feeding. Or give a suitable medicine which is safe for my baby also?

Brief Answer:
Yes, it is safe. The decision is made by your requirement for the inhalers.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. This seems to be a seasonal allergy leading to sinusitis and a post nasal drip.

2. The inhaler is safe to use while breastfeeding. Take the minimum dose that brings you relief.

3. At present avoid treatment for the sinusitis while you are breast feeding.

4. Steam inhalation and saline nasal washes will help. You can also try hypertonic nasal saline douching.

5. The treatment for the sinusitis can be resumed after you have stopped breastfeeding your baby.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
