Suggest Treatment For Cut At The Back Of The Throat After Injury

Question: My son was jumping on the couch with a plastic rod (used for building pretend tents). Somehow he slipped and the rod was jammed to the back of his mouth. It cut a couple of holes into the soft palate, just above and to the right of his tonsils. It did some bleeding. I decided not to take him to the doctor. If it would have been on his face, they would've given him a stitch. But with it being in the back of his mouth, I didn't think they would do anything about it. Today it is very sore. I am wondering about infection. Is there anything I can have him gargle to cut down the chance of infection and reduce pain?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your 7 year old son and understood the concerns.
There are not actually any gargles which can effectively control throat infection.
Sips of plain water is the best way to keep the oral wounds clean.
Please continue with Amoxicillin for a few more days to have control over infection.
Give some anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen if it suits him for reducing the edema and pain.
The oral wounds heal very fast in children.
Stitching wound within 6 hours of injury helps very early recovery.

When did the injury occur?
Please post clear and focused photos as this helps sometimes for on-the-spot diagnosis and helps for deciding future course of action.
