Brief Answer:
Depends on the cause of dementia.Tell details.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

Treatment of Dementia actually depends on the cause of dementia.Causes of dementia broadly divides dementia into reversible and non-reversible dementia.

Common Causes of reversible dementia are-
1)Thyroid dysfunction
2)Normal pressure hydrocephalus
3)Vitamin B12 deficiency

Most common cause of non-reversible dementia is-
Neurodegenerative dementias

Vascular dementia can be reversible in early stage and irreversible in late stages.

So,I would be able to better answer this query,if you can tell that what is the complete diagnosis of your husband, etiologically?or,What is the cause of dementia?

Does he suffer from Diabetes,Hypertension,Thyroid or other chronic diseases?
I'm sure he must have been thoroughly evaluated till now.

I shall be glad to have you in follow-up with details.

Regards

My husband is in perfectly good shape. I wish my vitals were as good as his. He has always been told by his Dr. he has the body of a 20 year old. He takes liquid B12 everyday. He did have a stomach surgery about 48 years ago.

Brief Answer:
MRI Brain/Thyroid function tests

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for being in follow-up and telling details.

I still need to know that-
1)Did he get a brain MRI?
2)What about Thyroid function tests?
3)Is his diagnosis of Dementia confirmed by a neurologist?

Underlying condition of Dementia should be treated.Adding on,some of the medicines which are commonly used are Donepezil and Memantine.

Please follow-up with further details.

MRI Brain,if not done,is a must for Dementia evaluation and planning treatment.
