Brief Answer:
Hypoglycaemia is rare with Metformin
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM. I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.
Hypohlycaemia is rare with Metformin. But with an HbA1c of 4.2 and controlled blood sugars I feel there is no need to increase the dose.
Do follow up blood sugars and HbA1c. Ic fasting blood sugars are persistently above 100 mg/dl, you can increase the dose.
Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you

Are there additional risks associated w me increasing to 1000mg?
Brief Answer:
May increase gastritis
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
The side effect expected is gastric intolerance and vitamin B 12 deficiency. If you take a multi vitamin and don't have gastric intolerance, there are no issues with increasing dose. Hypoglycaemia ( low sugars) is relatively rare side effect.
