Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: Hi
I started getting diarrhea and then loose stools that would come out very quickly over a period of 2 weeks. I went to the dr and he prescribed me a fibre supplement. This bulked up the stools a bit but then they came out thin and sometimes flat and pence or twice floating. I went back to the dr and he referred me to a specialist who looked inside my rectum with a camera quickly ( not a sigmoidoscopy)
And said he saw nothing. He said that as I had no other symptoms other than loose stools that are generally lighter in colour and mucous in the stools that it was unlikely that it was bowel cancer (as he checked my stomach and I have had no bleeding or stomach aches and I have not lost weight other than because I am now eating a lot less) but that the only way they would know would be to do a colonoscopy. In the meantime thinking it might be ibs or a food reaction or celiac stopped eating dairy and wheat and avoiding gluten. When I have eaten just white rice and simple meats and vegetables my poohs started to become solid again though I feel slightly constipated and go less often but they are still lighter in colour than usual like a yellow brown though I did have one that was a normal colour last week. Stupidly I also looked on the internet about the symptoms and saw a link to pancreatic cancer and that is now in the back of my mind and does worry me. I wondered if you could give me your opinion.

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be pancreatic cancer
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I understand your concerns.
This does not seem like pancreatic cancer. In that case, pain is a predominant sign and some weight loss would have been evident. Jaundice is also common in many pancreatic cancer patients. If the eyes and urine are yellow in addition to pale stools, then I would consider it a problem, otherwise not. In a patient with just some altered bowel habit, I would not think of pancreatic cancer first.
However, I feel that colonoscopy is required, not only to rule out bowel cancer, but also to find out the cause of this diarrhea and occasional constipation.
Hope this helps. I will be available for follow-up.
Regards
