Suggest Treatment For Difficulty Swallowing Along With Excess Mucus Excretion
Last 5 days difficulty swallowing.
In naso pharanx and pharanx their are lines of mucous, white to light yellow.
they catch food when I am eating and feels like my throat is closing.
No fever, lymph nodes , negative, chest feels clear.
Do I need to go to a hospital now, or can I take something like mucinex and wait out what I think is a viral pharangitis?
Could be fungal, needs ENT evaluation.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having difficulty in swallowing.
As per your clinical details, it appears like pharyngitis secondary to general anesthesia with endo tracheal tube insertion ( least likely) or oral candidiasis ( most likely- post nephrectomy it self an immunocompromised status ( fungal infection is common) or due to multiple usage of antibiotics.
I suggest you to consult ENT surgeon and get detailed ENT examination ( to differentiate fungal or other infection), if necessary laryngoscopy to see the extent ( base of tongue, vocal cords). Depending on the examination findings, further treatment is required accordingly.
Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Wishing you good health.
Can I wait, feeling pretty good, no difficulty getting nourishment etc.
any over the counter stuff I should use , not for comfort, but more to prevent stuff going into my lungs, I have no cough now, and breath easily.
Many thanks, XXXXXXX XXXX
cetrizine and omeprazole can be taken
Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.
In my opinion, you have already taken antibiotics (post nephrectomy), fungal infection (oral candidiasis) can be diagnosed by examination and culture. anti fungal medications needs to be taken under medical supervision.
As such, no cough or breathlessness (no lung involvement), you can take simple cetrizine 10 mg at bed time, ppi inhibitor like omeprazole 20mg before break fast and paracetamol/acetaminophen 500 mg twice daily after food for pain. Other medications can be started after ENT consultation.
Meanwhile, continue salt water gargling.
Hope, I have answered your query.
Take care.
