Suggest Treatment For Feeling Of Food Stuck In Throat And Infrequent Spasms

default
Posted on Mon, 31 Aug 2015
Question: Hi. I feel like I have something stuck in my throat for a few months. I also have been having Esophageal spasms for some time as well. I plan on making an appt with a Gastro doc but I am trying to find out what might be the cause. I have had the spasms infrequently until lately, I have had two major ones in the past three days. I am a bit scared.... my father died of esophagel cancer when he was 64.

Brief Answer:
Possible Achalasia Cardia?Need Confirmation

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,

I understand your concern.

Since you seem to have spasms, this could possibly imply achalasia cardia.

This can produce sensation of both obstruction as well as spasm.

But the risk of Oesophageal Cancer has to be assessed.

This is unlikely to present at your age.

The only risk factor is family history of this cancer.

Oesophageal cancer presents with gross weight loss, which might be unlikely in your case as of now.

The only way it can be diagnosed is through biopsy obtained by way of endoscopy.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
