Suggest Treatment For Flair Up Of Diverticulitis And Lower Back Pain

My Email is YYYY@YYYY.com
If diverticulitis is confirmed in you then there is less risk of cancer
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.
1. I have read through a research which studied the probability of colon cancer in patients having diverticulitis.
2. The authors have concluded and I quote "Diverticular disease does not increase the risk of colon cancer in the long term, and a history of diverticular disease does not affect colon cancer mortality. The increased risk of colon cancer within the first 12 months after diagnosing diverticular disease is most likely due to surveillance and misclassification. Examination of the colon should be recommended after a primary episode of symptomatic diverticular disease."
3. Therefore I do not find that there is any serious concern in your case. However doing a colonoscopy is justified and you should get it done. Once you have been examined and investigated clearly and confirmed to have diverticulitis then there is extremely less chance of a cancer.
Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
