Suggest Treatment For Gum Infection While On Clindamycin

Posted on Tue, 18 Apr 2017
Question: I have an infected wisdom tooth. I have been on clindamycin for 4 days. The pain is getting worse. My dentist changed me over to metronidazole+ Azithromycin. I understand it is very difficult to make an assessment without actually seeing the patient, but in your opinion, how long until i actually feel relief? The doctor was very confused about why the clindamycin did not work yet. The pain is unbelievable. They did a CT yesterday which said it was not an abscess and I would prefer not to spend 10 hours in an ER if I can avoid it. I just took a metronidazole and an azithromycin and am hoping the pain goes away soon. I took a motrin, a tyelenol, and a naproxen. The pain is still at least 8/10.

Brief Answer:
You need better pain control.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I have reviewed your information fully. The pain wouldn't be controlled by the antibiotics. you need better pain medications such as oxycodone. Tylenol and Motrin wouldn't be able to help with this excruciatingly pain. Antibiotics take longer to control infection and pain and thus good pain medication is required in the interim.

in all, request for stronger pain medications and allow time for antibiotics to act fully.

I wish you well and keep me posted.
