Seems to be upper respiratory infection here.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Throat pain, burning and headache with chills could be due to upper respiratory infection. Majority of cases throat infections are due to viral infection (EB virus / adenovirus), but in some cases it might be related to bacterial infection (streptococcal pharyngitis) or parasite. We differentiate the cause through routine blood counts with throat examination, pharyngoscopy. Therefore it is worthwhile to visit a doctor, preferably ENT specialist. Based on the causative organisms, you may need a course of antibiotic. Drugs like levofloxacin or ofloxacin (quinolones group) or azithromycin (macrolides group) are the first choice and much better than any other antibiotics. Your ENT doctor will know about it.
If a visit to the doctor is not feasible, you can try some remedies at home. It includes:
1. Antiinflammatory drug such as tylenol three times a day.
2. Antihistamines such as cetrizine (zyrtec) once a day at night.
3. Steam inhalation 2 to 3 times a day.
4. Warm salt water gargles 3-4 times a day.
5. Avoid cold and refrigerated water / food.
I hope this helps you. Thanks and Regards,
Dr.SandipKabra
