Suggest Treatment For Heavy Vaginal Bleeding After A Hysteroscopy

Question: Had a hysteroscopy on thursday 27th October. also had endometrial biopsy done as endometrium was very thick. original problem was very heavy bleeding and periods lasting 2-3 weeks at a time. surgeon told me he found no polyps, several fibroids, one that was quite troublesome, but didn't elaborate, as we will discuss it further at the next consultation. pain post-surgery was very bad, they gave me toradol before procedure, then morphine and codeine after and that didn't help, so they ended up giving me fentanyl, that was the only thing that helped with the pain.

i was discharged the same day and went home that evening. pain was manageable on thursday evening, all day friday and most of Saturday. but Saturday evening pain became intense, and i started bleeding a lot heavier (before I was just spotting). the other issue is that i have been taking norethisterone 15mg for 5 weeks before the procedure, and my surgeon told me to stop it on Thursday 27th Oct. So Saturday would be 48 hours since i stopped the norethisterone. my layman's view is that my current pain is caused by coming off the norethisterone. i am having a period, but it is a period that is 10 times more painful than normal and which no pain killer seems to touch. i have tried codeine, ibuprofen and tramadol. last night took 100mg of tramadol twice, 6 hours apart and just lay in bed all night groaning in pain. it is very unusual for me not to react to tramadol.

i called the hospital where i had the procedure done (it is a private hospital in the UK) and the nurse told me she would try to contact my surgeon/gynaecologist. she called me back an hour later to say his cell phone just goes to voicemail and she can't contact him at home either.

so my only other option is to go to the ER in the government funded hospitals in the UK (NHS). in the meantime I thought i would try to find some advice online.

do you think this is just caused by coming off the norethisterone? will the pain get better in a day or so? any thoughts? thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
Post hystroscopy bleeding

Detailed Answer:
hi
GREETINGS
I understand your situation.
I too feel that your bleeding could be because you stopped norethisterone .
But what bothers me, is about your pain after 3 days with bleeding. Do you get this pain usually during periods?
Do you have endometriosis .?
Are you taking any antibiotics ?
Bleeding need not stop after 2 days as you had bleeding for prolonged days before, and presently your endometrium is thick and off norethisterone.
So if your bleeding is severe with pain , I feel that you should consult a gynaecologist .. pain killers will not stop bleeding.
Either to restart norethisterone or some other drugs should be discussed with your hystroscopy findings .
Hope my answer helps you.
regards
