Brief Answer:
Rest, medications, ultrasound and aspiration, compression bandage.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, albeit short and specific.
To recapitulate: Male/81 - extensive hematoma in though - saw the Doctor 2 days ago - try to see her on Monday - need advise on how to relieve pain and reduce the condition over this weekend - trying heat and some movement to get blood circulating...

First of all I would like to know a few details, please:
- Since when is the hematoma present?
- What was the cause, I mean trauma, muscle spasm while walking, on some blood thinner or such medications, on its own or so on?
- How large/ what is the extent of hematoma? And where exactly isit?

These information will help me to assist you better and more correctly...

As a general outline of such a case:
- Rest: Giving rest allows to limit the spread of hematoma.
- Elevation of the affected part: in case of thigh this is not possible but lying flat in bed will help.
- Medication: Anti-inflammatory medication with painkiller property like Ibuprofen helps to control the swelling and pain if it suits you.
- Compression bandage on the recent hematoma limits the spread and pain.
- Investigations and an active treatment:
It is always preferable to have ultrasonography top see the exact size, extent, depth of the hematoma and its relationship to the nearby structures, particularly the blood vessels and possible connection.
Aspiration under ultrasound is the best to reduce the hematoma and pain to be followed by compression bandage.
Please see if this can be done.

I hope this answer helps you to get a proper guidance, diagnosis and active treatment; please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
