Question: Hi, I have a very bad burst vessel in my eye. It is solid red and looks like it is pooling at the bottom. I have never seen one this bad on anyone. Do I need to be worried?

Brief Answer:
It is subconjunctival hemorrhage.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care magic.

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

I reviewed history and the photo attached with the question.

It is subconjunctival hemorrhage. It is usually self resolving condition. Since it is larger in size it may take 3-4 weeks to resolve. Applying cold compression and taking Vitamin C supplements will help.

The most common cause is injury. If you have history of injury then you need to consult your eye doctor to rule out injury to other parts of the eye.

If there is no history of injury need to rule out causes like hypertension, diabetes, bleeding and clotting diseases....

You need to worry if you have symptoms like blurring of vision, sensitivity to light, pain...
If you do not have these symptoms then no need to worry.

Hope the information is helpful to you.
Do write back to me for any further questions.

Thank you
With regards

Hi again
I should have mentioned that there was not trauma or accident to the eye. I just woke up this morning with a red blotch and it has spread over the day. This happened before about two months ago in the same place but was not as bad. It faded after a week.

I started going to Pilates last week after a long break - could the bending and downward dog position with head down (Upside down) cause this? You know blood going to the head?

Thanks XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
No need to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

Since it is spontaneous in onset no need to worry it will resolve.
It can be because of upside down position. Since it has recurred in last two months we need to rule out systemic causes like diabetes and hypertension where the blood vessels are weak and can bleed spontaneously.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
