Detailed Answer:
Hello,

First thing is that, you should have a healthy lifestyle like avoiding fatty, oily and high calorie diet.

Have low salt diet and monitor blood pressure regularly thrice a day for one week then once or twice a week. You can make a chart of it. If blood pressure is persistently more than 140/90 mmhg, then you should be on medicines for it.

Weight loss and regular exercises like brisk walking, jogging according your capacity at least 30 min a day and 5 days a week is very effective way of keeping blood pressure under control. Lots of green leafy vegetables, fruits, fish once or twice a week, avoid red meat. Avoid smoking and alcohol if any. There shouldn't be abdominal fat deposition or obesity. Get your lipid profile and sugars tested once and then at regular intervals.

Thyroid problem can also cause high BP so keep it under control. You should repeat TSH level 6 weeks after dose change.

If you are able to follow all these measures, blood pressure will remain under control for a long time and if still your BP is going above 140/90mmhg, then only you should be started on medicine.

Do get back if you have any doubts.
Regards

Hi XXXXXXX

Thanks for providing a detailed analysis. I'm do take normal home cooked meals and avoid oily and high calorie diets. My BP is quite normal now 130/90 mmhg, however, I'm more concerned about Thyroid which came suddenly 6 months back. Serum TSH was 300 micro IU/ml at that time and since then I'm taking Thyronorm 50mcg as per doc prescription. Now it is 7.6 micro IU/ml. My concern is how to maintain it without medicines.

Best Regards

Brief Answer:
Needs to be on med

Detailed Answer:
300 is really a a high level. Tsh increases due to deficiency of thyroxine hormone in the body due to dysfunctional thyroid so we need to replace it.
In other thyroid problems like occurring in hilly areas, it occurs due to iodine deficiency or due to particular food like cabbage and this can be treated with iodine supplementation but this will not help in your case so needs to be on supplements.
Also, Ramdev baba claims that thyroid problems can be treated with yoga so there is no harm in practising it and monitor tsh levels, if responding then dose can be decreased.
There is no harm in continuing thyroxine supplements, it's a very safe and without sideeffects if taken in appropriate doses.
