Question: My wife just tested her blood sugar level and it was 411. She just took 40 insulin and we plan to check it on about an hour from now. OK or do we need to go to the emergency room?

Brief Answer:
If this is the first time, wait and see.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I had gone through your query and understood your concerns.

Sir, The blood sugar level of 411mg/dl. is too high. You said you have given insulin. If this is the first time you have seen such high sugar level and she is alright other than this, you can wait and see whether the insulin is controlling blood sugar level. If the sugar level comes under control with in 1-2hrs is alright. But let the treating doctor know about this.

If the sugar level doesn't reduce, then better is to get into hospital and get acute care.

Hope this guides you. For any other queries you can write to us. we will be happy to help you. Thank you.
