Question: What does one do for an inflamed Barthling (not sure about the h)cyst? I am a 67 year old female and have only had this once before, about 30 years ago, so don't remember what my doctor at the time advised.

Brief Answer:
Incision, drainage, antibiotics and proper hygiene

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,

It is important to get a proper examination of the vulval area, to be sure first that it is actually an inflammed Bartholin cyst.

Inflamed Bartholin cysts are generally infected, usually with accumulation of pus within the cysts.

Treatment usually involves an incision and drainage of the abscess. Depending on the intensity of the pus, anti biotics could be prescribed.

A proper hygiene of the vulva would be advised. I suggest you meet a doctor for confirmation of the diagnosis, and proper management.

The good news is, the outcome in Bartholin cyst infections is generally good. Kind regards as I wish you the best of health.
