Suggest Treatment For Itching All Over The Body
Question: Sudden itching all over the body. Starts during midnight and continues in the daytime also. Itching is more intense near breast, hands and feet. Consulted doctor immediately, did a US scan to check the wellbeing of the baby. Scan results were normal. Doctor prescribed Avil to control itching. Is it safe to take Avil at this time (35th week of pregnancy)? Also should we be worried about the itching to take different consultation?
Brief Answer:
Hormonal changes
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
The itching you are suffering from is due to due hormonal changes which are physiological in pregnancy, you can continue with Tablet AVIL as suggested by your doctor as this is safe in pregnancy.
Do you have any rashes associated with itching? If so, you may upload the images. Get your BP checked. If everything is fine then don't have to worry about it as it'll get better once you deliver a baby. You do not need another consultation as of now. Apply any moisturizer like Dermadew Aloe cream, you may feel relieved.
If any further query kindly get back to us.
Take care.

Thank you doctor for your detailed reply. There are no visible rashes. After sensing the symptoms, my wife is slightly worried after coming to know about Obstetric cholestasis. Is it something we need to worry about and discuss with our consulting gynecologist.
Brief Answer:
Liver enzymes and bile salts to be investigated.
Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for writing back
Good to have that thought, but you can't judge the diagnosis until you get your liver enzymes and bile salts investigated. If these are elevated then you'll have to consult your gynaecologist. Even if she is diagnosed to have cholestasis there is no need to worry much as it'll not cause any harm to the baby and it'll be reverted back after her delivery.
Hope the information was helpful for you, any query get back to us.
