Suggest Treatment For Joints Pain And Contact Dermatitis On Thigh

Question: Hello! I have been on here recently due to some issues i have been having with joint pain and rash. About a month ago, i attended a hot yoga class, then ran the following morning. I developed a red area on the back of my thigh that was res and irritated. I had it checked out and the dermatologist said it was contact dermatitis and i was given cream. During that week i started developing joint pain in my fingers toes and even pain in the muscles of my forearms and a crampy kind of thing up in my thigh. I went back to the dermatologist who did bloodwork. Cbc came back normal and tested negative for lupus. I should also mention i have an appetite and havent lost weight or anything. Joint pain persisted after that and i had two bumps develop on my chin/neck that looked like bug bites but have since gone. I went to my family doctor who did a repeat CBC test and comprehensive cbc which came back normal, a mono test which came back negative and a RA factor test. I got a 10 on that...they said up to 15 is in the normal range. I have since experienced most of my joint pain (no stiffness or inflamation) in the morning and then it dissipates with only intermittent pain throughout the day. However, i have gone back to jogging on thr treadmill and the rash on my leg has again become irritated (which never went away in the first place) only faded. Today, i am experiencing joint pain in my fingers, wrists and now my right knee (that is new) and am still worried as i have no answers and as i said i also have pain that creeps into my forearms...nothing sore, just intermittent pain. I will be seeing a rheumatologist this week but i keep thinking something is seriously wrong with me such as a neurological condition like ALS, a brain tumor, some kind of blood or bone cancer, etc. I should also mention that ive had a sore eye on and off along with all of this...not sure its related, eye doctor checked and didnt notice anything. I have attached pictures of the rash. I would love to hear your input. Im just tired of being in pain and not really knowing if something is seriously wrong with me. Thanks! I am 27 and have been otherwise healthy. I have scoliosis in my spine but otherwise nothing serious. I have attached pics of the rash i had on my face and the one on my thigh. It is only that red when irritated but is never fully gone.

Brief Answer:
Rash with polyarthritis suggest systemic illness.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have studied your case with diligence and seen your clinical photo.
Rash with polyarthritis suggest systemic illness.
Systemic illness can be possibly autoimmune disease or rheumatoid arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis may involve small joints and early morning stiffness in joints, do you have such complain?

When such patients come to our hospital I advise them blood test like, ACCP, ESR, HLA B27, ANA, and Ds DNA.

I will advise you to do further investigate and you can attach test reports to me.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care.

I appreciate your answer. I too thought RA but they tested me for RA factor and it came back in the normal range. I am worried it is a neurological disorder like ALS or MS or some kind of blood/bone cancer or brain tumor or something. I do not have early morning stiffness but i can say the intermittent aches in my joints is more frequent in the morning. However, i also experience intermittent aches in various muscles of arms and a cramp in my leg that comes and goes. Do you believe this is something super horrible? I am just worried as this came on suddenly and wont fully go away. I have had a couple doctors say it is probably just post viral. As we speak the bottom of my foot is aching between my toes. Thanks! As i said they did a cbc and other tests so leukemia, etc has been ruled out i guess

Brief Answer:
ACCP test is more sensitive for RA so I have advised that to you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

RA factor is positive in only 40 percent of RA patient.

ACCP test is more sensitive for RA so I have advised that to you.

Yes if CBC is normal leukemia is ruled out.

If required PET scan can be done to rule out any malignancy in early stage.

I don’t think this is super horrible.

Take vit B12 and vit D supplement for leg cramp.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Take care.

Thanks for your help! Since friday i have been having considerable pain in my lower left back/hip area...not sure if this is related to all that. The joint pain is still there but comes and goes and will affect like one thumb pretty badly for awhile and then will move to my toes, etc. I also noticed yesterday that i have a small, sore reddish spot on the side of my neck with a teeny bumpish thing, size of a very small bead under neath. My lymphnodes are a little swollen on that side but i am stuffed up/having a decent cold at this time...hopefully this isnt anything bad in terms of my lymphnodes. Anyway, as i said earlier im worried that they cant figure all of this out.

Hello! Thank you for your answer! I got the results of my bloodwork. My thyroid results were normal but Vitamin D was very low, he said it was 17. He put me on vitamin d supplements twice a week. I have to go back in 10 weeks and i think do another lab. He didnt seem worried about it and said i should start feeling better. Im just a little concerned because he did say it is associated with multiple forms of cancer, etc. He did say he didnt think it was anything serious though. I am just worried it is something more serious...but hopefully not.

Thanks for your help! He has put me on vitamin d supplements for 8 weeks. I have a follow up appointment in 10 weeks. I am only worried because he wants me to go for another comprehensive CBC test (despite having 2 normal ones in the last few weeks) and a follow up vitamin d test. Im worried about why he wants to do another comprehensive cbc test. Im just worried that he suspects something bad such as cancer, etc or for something to develop since he said that could cause this. Any idea why he would want another comprehensive cbc? Im not sure he wants it right now or sometime before my 10 week follow up. Just worried.
