Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. The most likely cause is the severe muscle stiffness (spasm) of lower back.
My suggestion is-
1. Hot water fomentation and rest in lying down position.
2. Drug Ibuprofen, pain killer gel application along with prescription only drug Thiocolchicoside will help.
3. Physiotherapy helps in early recovery.
If there is bluish black discoloration then visit ER.
Wishing him early recovery.
Take care

What do you mean by "hot water fomentation"?
When should he be moved to bed?
Should ice be applied at some point to start decreasing inflammation?
Would massage at point of pain be good later when in bed?
Should he try to move often or stay in bed in a position that does not hurt ?

Hello
It's good to see you.
I have gone through your reply carefully. The heat (moist) is good muscle relaxant/soothing agent, I usually advise hot water fomentation (dip a cotton cloth in hot water and it may be placed at the back like a sheet).A word of caution, towel should not be too warm.
Move him to the bed as soon as comfortable. He should take maximum rest and that too in lying down position (on sides or on back).Gentle massage is helpful. He should take the medicines as discussed earlier.
Hope this answers your queries.
