Question: Hi dr,
I am 33 year old lady. My height is 5.7" and I weigh 70 kgs. In last 7-8 months I have reduced my weight from 92 kgs to 70 kgs through gym and balanced diet. I workout every day for 1 hour atleast. Last 5-6 days I am feeling some pain in my lower back slightly towards right side. It was quite sharp but with icepack and massage it has drastically come down. I don't feel it Usually but when I try to bend down i can't do it that freely as I used to do. I feel slight pain still. While sitting if I try to bend my head and touch my chin on my chest then also i feel some pain. Before the pain started I remember working on laptop and probably my position wasn't right. Could you please help me in this? Will it go soon? Or is it a permanent settlement?

Brief Answer:
Hot compress and paracetamol/acetaminophen should provide relief.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query. You are correct about the improper posture to be the trigger for your problem. This has led to muscle spasm which is causing the pain. Ice compress is ok but it would be more helpful to apply hot compress. The vicious cycle of pain and spasm needs to be broken and I would insist you to take paracetamol or acetaminophen 500 mg two tablets together twice or thrice daily for next 3 days. This should ease the problem and make it go away. If it does not, I would insist you to get a X Ray of Lumbosacral spine (AP and lateral) done and to see a physical therapist with the reports. Based on the findings he would be able to demonstrate to you proper exercises that should provide relief.

Feel free to write back.

Brief Answer:
Alternatives mentioned

Detailed Answer:
Paracetamol is available as Crocin 500 mg tablets. Alternatively you can try Naprosyn (naproxen) 500 mg. Two tablets of any one of the two are to be taken together after food. Myospaz Forte or Myoril Forte are muscle relaxants which can be taken as an alternative. If you take these instead (any one), one tablet is to be taken twice daily for the next three days.
