Suggest Treatment For Pain And Swelling At The Back Of Knee
Question: I have pain and swelling in the back of my left knee. It came on suddenly last night. I have arthritis in my knees and have received synovial fluid injections in the front of my right knee. This doesn't feel like my arthritis.

Thanks for asking on Health care magic.
I understand your concern. I need to ask if there is localized redness and raised temperature (to indicate inflammation). If not, I need to know if there is a specific reason that you think it not to be related to arthritis. I would also insist you to upload an image of the affected area.
I will await your response.

I am having computer trouble. I sent pictures you requested using email. The response I tried to send yesterday was stuck on "connecting" for more than 24 hours.
I have no redness or fever. I have a lump/bump on the back of my left knee that is extremely painful... especially when I sit down, or go down (or up) stairs. It is somewhat hard/firm and looks swollen. I said I didn't think it was arthritis because I have arthritis in both knees (and, both hips were replaced in 2010). Both knees have been "scoped" and I am told they are bone-on-bone. So, I know what arthritis feels like and this pain is different. It has persisted for 4 days now.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be arthritis
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for clarifying. The very fact that they are bone-on-bone confirms arthritis and since no inflammatory signs are present I do not think it to be anything else. Hot compress and pain meds should provide relief.
