Brief Answer:
Any personal history of trauma? arthritis?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I am sorry for the situation you are going through.

Have you got your elbow injured recently?
Any personal history of arthritis?

If no recent trauma, then swelling is due to bursitis (inflammation or infection of bursa, the soft part between the bones of elbow joint).

I advise to:
- consult your physician first for a primary examination
- Discuss with him/her about running an x-ray or ultrasound of the elbow joint
- take oral antiinflammatory meds until you see your primary (e.g. ibuprofen, ketotifen)
- apply cold compresses locally

Hope it was of help.
