Suggest Treatment For Pain In Navel When Suffering From Diverticulitis

default
Posted on Tue, 30 Jun 2015
Question: ok -

Here goes

I have had diverticulitis before so I know this is not a attack.

However - I have pain exactly directly 5 inches below belly button - it feels like prostate but at same time also a bladder infection.

Went to DR yesterday - urine and blood all normal - no fever.

Is this a prostate infection or irritable bowel or what or possibly non infection cystitus?

thanks

Brief Answer:
Prostate does not represent this area.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and the information.

You have pain directly and exactly 5 inches below the belly button.
And you think this is not a diverticulitis, went to Doctor, blood and urine normal;
Wants to know whether this is prostate, IBS or what or non-infectious cystitis.

This area represents the following organs:
small intestine
sigmoid colon
distended urinary bladder
Meckel's diverticulum
Cyst of urachus

This area does not represent the pain from prostate or non infectious cystitis.
Yes, it can be due to irritable bowel.

You may please provided details about the pain- nature, character, duration, severity, relation to anything like food, bowel movement, movement of the body, associated symptoms like fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, back ache, or anything related or unrelated to the the present complaints so that I can assist you more.
Any other investigations done?

Hello

Thank you for your answer.

This problem has puzzled many doctors here in Los Angeles - I am begging for you continued help on this. My lower back near the base of my tail bone is EXTREMELY tender. As of this morning I have NO fever - NO chiils and have a good appetite.
It is very tender and get worse when I walk from simple movement.
NO left side pain thank God. I am urinating well with no pain and not urinating more than normal.

Thanks - please don't give up on this.

Since I changed my diet 4 months ago (NO more FIBER Supplements and no more pain meds - Advil etc and no more narcotics - only 5mg a day - I have been great.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
May be coccydynia.

Detailed Answer:
Thank for your feedback and appreciation.

If I consider your symptoms as you have written about the pain
(My lower back near the base of my tail bone is EXTREMELY tender. It is very tender and get worse when I walk from simple movement.)
is suggestive of a condition called Coccydynia where the tailbone (coccyx) and can be simple inflammation.
MRI is the best investigations for this and of course the clinical evaluation by a General Surgeon or Orthopedic Surgeon.

I hope this helps.

what are your thoughts on Xifaxin?

I am pretty sure I have SIBO

Thx

Answered by Dr. T Chandrakant (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
please elaborate

Detailed Answer:
Xifaxin- an antibiotic not absorbed by the blood from intestine and hence works locally in the small intestine.
Used mainly in Traveler's diarrhea, IBS-D (with diarrhea), SIBO.

SIBO is still under evaluation, under-diagnosed, the breath test measuring levels of hydrogen and methane gas give false negative results. It looks to be all empirical till now and under evaluation.

What makes you think that you have SIBO?
Please elaborate.

I am bloated most of the time especially after I just eat a small meal.

I am grabbing at straws now.

ALL testing has has co5 inches me up negative - MRI and CT included.

Some docs feel that when I get like this it is my bladder - while others think prostate. Finally I have presented like diverticulitis and have done antibiotics 5 times over past 7 years.

This time I KNOW its in my colon as my stool is very mucosy.

I am really at my wits end

Today I am a little better but still tender

I am only drinking carrot and coconut water and water.

Ok

Thank you.

No blood - just pain under belly button but still no diverticulitis type pain

Brief Answer:
Colitis, right time of investigations when you have symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback.

This is the right time to have investigations like contrast enhanced CT scan of the abdomen, blood, stool and all when you have symptoms and hence more chances of pointing/finding the disease.

I think you should go for it.

Yes, mucus in stool is usually indicative of a colonic (large intestine) problem and SIBO is concerned with small intestine.

You were lucky to have only 5 course in 7 years.
Right treatment at the right time is very important.

What treatment are you receiving at the moment?

Hi

Currently just rest

No antibiotics

Getting better

Also doing Aloe Vera AMP capsules wich seem to be working

Final question - This is quite big actually.......

Where is my pain coming from?

Is it from the colon itself or rather from the Bladder that is being irritated from being pressed upon from the inflamed colon? Or is it the prostate from being pressed on from the colon and the bladder?

This presents as bladder but I took a bladder numbing medicine and had no relief from pain so I am surmising that the pain is from the Colon?

I feel the pain right under my skin.

Finally - PLEASE think about this as it is really strange.

If I intentionally bloat out and push out my stomach as if I am trying to make myself look pregnant I have almost no pain.

Ok thank you for your time.

Brief Answer:
Pain from the intestine.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback. You are a wonderful patient.

The last summation- intentional bloating helps to separate the inflamed bowel to be bit away hence the relief.
Bladder can not be separated whatever you do.

Hence the pain is seemingly coming from intestine.
