Suggest Treatment For Pain In Neck, Arms And Finger Joints Along With Swelling On Fingers

default
Posted on Mon, 31 Aug 2015
Question: Greetings. I think I may have a pinched nerve but wanted to check the symptom checker which picks out the WORST possibilities. I'm 49 years old and have had a desk job in front of a computer for over 23 years. The pain started in my neck on the right side (the mouse hand) about 2 weeks ago. Now the joints in my right arm ache at the elbow and the fingertip joints. Recently (3 days ago-ish) it spread to my left fingertip joints. It's worse in the morning - not severe (or I would be in the doctor's office) - just worse in the morning. My fingers are slightly swollen - not visibly, but my rings are tight. Thanks. XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for posting your question to HCM,

I understand your concern. We need to confirm if it is a pinched nerve, or these are join pains.
A pinched nerve hurts like an electrical wave, in the line of the nerve way. But swelling is not typical, unless it happens when you keep your hand in a down position and when you elevate it the swelling goes away.
A good reaction to pain killers is also a good sign to being more a nerve problem.

If I was your caring doctor I would recommend to use Ibuprofen 400 mg 3 times.day for one week, which will lower the inflammation.

Also, since it starts in the morning maybe it is affected by your position of sleeping.
If you can do physiotherapy sessions to do some exercises which will strengthen your muscles.

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarification.

Take care,
