Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Neck

default
Posted on Wed, 3 May 2017
Question: what can you do for a very stiff neck--right side along the ear.

my neck is hurting me for about 45 days. Went to acupuncturist with some relief. My neck is sore to touch. Think maybe I strained muscles in this area.

Brief Answer:
Physical therapy will be more helpful then the acupuncture.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

These are my recommendations:
- Try to notice what may be causing the pain/stiffness: your bed, the position you do daily activities like staying in front of the computer, ect...and avoid this position.
- Correct your posture. Most of the times. a bad posture would cause a neck pain.
- Take the painkiller regularly: Ibuprofen 400mg, 1 tablet 3 times/day for 2 weeks.
- Apply an analgesic cream locally, 3-4 times/day and massage gently.
- Physical therapy may be more helpful then the acupuncture. They will advise some specific exercises according to your physical exam, that will help strengthen the muscles of the neck, which will be able to hold the normal posture without problems.

If worse or not better, I would recommend seeing a local doctor.

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.

Regards,
Dr. Papaqako
