Suggest Treatment For Painful Varicose Veins In Left Leg
I have very painful varicose veins in left leg and do quite a bit of standing at my job for 8 hours. I wear the compression sox and heating pad at night but still very painful veins. The first available appt with vascular dr is December 7th. Is there anything else I can do for the pain besides taking xtra strength Tylenol? I also had 2 venous dopplers done and they have ruled out blood clot in leg.
Please follow directions mentioned as follows
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.
1. Sorry to hear that you have a lot of pain. Varicose veins can get quite painful in some patients and you might be among them.
2. It is confirmed that there are no blood clots on Doppler and therefore the pain is entirely from the varicose veins.
3. You have taken correct measures in using heating pads at night, bandage wrap, compression socks and pain relief medicine, these will get you some relief.
4. In addition you can do the following
(i) Elevate your legs when you are lying down with 2 to 3 pillows. This will improve blood circulation through the veins
(ii) Avoid sitting crossed legged.
(iii) Take frequent breaks at your job from standing. You can try sitting down for 5 minutes after every hour of standing
(iv) Avoid wearing tight clothing and high heeled shoes.
(v) Dont stay in a fixed position for more than 30 minutes
5. You can make a request for an early appointment if available with your hospital.
Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
