Suggest Treatment For Persistent Prostatitis

default
Posted on Thu, 16 Feb 2017
Question: I have been diagnosed with prostatitis for 2 months. I have taken Cipro for 4 weeks and its hard on the body(side effects liked joint pain, reddish skin, etc. I play tennis too). It makes it 50% better but does not knock it out. The first med she gave me was a sulphamethoxale and it gave me slight SOB after 3days and was told to stop. I have had 6 appt., 1 with a specialist(gave me doxacycline which did nothing). Could I go to a lower dose of Bactra or what med should I take next. I thought the process of elimination might assist the doctors final treatment. PSA was within limits and they were not concerned with the C-word.

Brief Answer:
Following treatments strategy for prostatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi Kazi,

I am sorry for the health problems you are having.

Prostatitis is a fastidious disease that is very difficult to treat.

Antibiotics you used so far are the treatment of choice, however, due to prostate capsule, it is difficult for the antibiotics to enter inside the gland capsule.

Sometimes, intravenous antibiotics are necessary to start.

Fluorquinolones like Ciprofloxacin, and sulpha are the drugs of choice.

However, if you suffer side effects, ceftriaxone IV and azythromycine should be considered.

Probiotics to start and fluconazole for Candida overgrowth and intestinal flora alteration from long term use of antibiotics.

Antiinflammatory meds like ibuprofen, or spasmodic like spasmex or buscopan to use for pain relief.

Sitz bath is of help together with diet changes like avoiding alcohol, spices, chilly, fried, oily foods.

Hope this will help you.
