Suggest Treatment For Persistent Redness On Legs That Spreads
Question: My 17 yr daughter has been having an issue with severe redness to her feet for some time now .(5 years or so.) Not sure if it is Raynard's syndrome but it looks like it sometimes. It does not affect her fingers. It can be brought on with heat (showers, baths, wearing tight high heel shoes and extreme cold. This has progressively gotten worse over the last year. I have noticed the redness has spread to her lower legs and calves instead of just staying locally in her feet. It happens to both feet when it happens. (it does not happen every time she has a shower or bath thou). The redness does go away as long as she gets off her feet or by morning I have pictures to show you but unable to figure out how to download them to this site). She has had progressively increase in pain to her calves this year as well We call it "growing pain" but she is not growing She is about 5'0" and 120 lbs. The pain usually occurs if she stands for long periods of time at her part time job as a cashier, or when she goes to dance class. The pain is actually worse then the redness. I have no idea if these 2 symptoms are related or not. I am not sure what we are dealing with here at all? Any thoughts?

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
From your description it looks like urticaria which can cause redness of legs due to temperature changes.
Raynards will cause paleness ( opposite of what is happening to your child).
You can upload photos for me to understand more.

Will wait for the pictures to answer more clearly.

Hi, I have provided some attachments. Please review them.
Brief Answer:
Looks like hives or urticaria
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for attaching the image.
I could see elevated areas along with red rash.
This goes more in favour of hives also called urticaria.
Extremes in temperature can trigger urticaria.
Usually will respond to antihistamines like cetrizine.
Try cetrizine if it responds well then it confirms urticaria.
If no improvement
It is better to get her checked by your doctor.
The other possibilities include cellulitis and autoimmune causes like lupus though chances are less.
Wishing your daughter good health and speedy recovery.
